About me

Hi there, and welcome to My Indian Taste blog!

My name is Irina, I am a Romanian female living in Mumbai with my husband and our lovely daughter.

Although I’m a formally trained analytical chemist, since last 8 years I work as a digital marketing strategist.

I moved to India in 2011 and have been experimenting with Indian food ever since.

I have always been opened to new tastes and cuisines. In my country, I used to have Indian food in Indian restaurants but food was so different, much less spicy and more with an european taste rather than Indian. I loved authentic Indian food from first day! In our home, after 4 years of living in India, we cook and eat mostly Indian food.

This blog records my Indian cooking attempts. Cooking, eating and learning about the Indian foods helps me understand and adapt easier to the Indian culture.

Even though I’m not an expert in Indian food, I wanted initially to share with my family and friends what I’m learning about eating and cooking in India. However, the blog has grown and I want to thank you all my readers from around the world, your comments and visits give me the drive to keep blogging and sharing recipes.

Every recipe is adapted on my own Indian taste. Whenever I cook Indian, I rarely do it too spicy. If you follow my recipes, you will notice that I like my meals mild spicy.

My native language is Romanian so my posts may contain grammar mistakes, I apologize for that.

  • Dear Irina,

My name is Joyce and I work for ExpatFinder.com.
ExpatFinder.com is a free one stop website for people preparing to move or working and living overseas. We provide a myriad of services for expatriates and we have over 2,000 articles to help and support the people moving around the world and we are now creating an interview section to help the expats with real life experiences!
We quite enjoy your blog about living in India, it is very interesting and informative. Would it be possible to interview you to further share some of your tips and feature some of your first hand experience as an Expat and your interview will be published on our Expat Interview section as a guide for our expat readers. The questions are mainly about the day to day lifestyle of an expat. If it would be possible, could you also send some photographs that we can use?
Of course, if you accept, we can add a link to your blog or some of your website.
The questions are enclosed, feel free to respond freely. You can return the doc with your answers if you accept this invitation.
Thanks in advance and do let me know if you prefer other means to conduct this interview and we would be happy to accommodate your terms.

    Best regards,
    Joyce

  • Hi Irina,

You have a nice blog here. I just came across your site from Alltop Recipes News page, where I was also a member.

Like you said, I totally agree with you. I had that experience during my time in UK. None of the Indian restaurants made real food.

And I must say.. I love your site. Especially the kerala recipes (pazha manga curry). I am from Kerala, so I must say its a soft corner.. :) But I really appreciate that you have come to India and have tried a lot of regional recipes.

I would love to be in touch with your site. I also have a site on vegetarian recipes aimed at bachelors and guys like me who want to make home food.
I would invite you, to visit my site http://www.vegtastebuds.com
as this would also benefit my readers, who can see your wonderful site.
Thanking you and your recipes :)
    Regards
    Vaishak

  • Dear Irina
Your blog has opened up the world of Indian cooking to me and I want to thank you for that. I am also an expat living in Mumbai for the last 4 years. In all my time living here, I have not learned to cook. Every time I tried to even search for an Indian recipe, they looked so intimidating! It was easier to just call for food from the local restaurant.
I came upon your blog a few weeks ago and it game me the confidence to experiment with local ingredients and spices. I made your beetroot in almond masala and it was absolutely delicious (and I don't even like beetroot!) Thank you for sharing your cooking experiences and expertise. Looking forward to cooking more.
    Sincerely,
    Maria

  • Hello Irina,

I'm writing to you in order to ask you about the names of meals you have prepared. Are the names translated on your own (from Hindi, Bengali etc to English) or have you just borrowed them from other websites or menus?
I'm a Polish student, but I'm at my BA level and I need to know it for thesis purposes.
I'm looking forward to hearing from you.

    Best Regards,
    Gabriela

    • Hi Gabriela,
Thank you for visiting my space here and for writing me. Some names are translated from local languages to English but for most of the meals, I have kept their original names. All the recipes posted on my blog, have been cooked by me over my years in India, getting inspiration from restaurant meals, friends recipes or from local cooking books. If I can help you more, don't hesitate to drop me an email to myindiantaste@gmail.com.
      Cheers,
      Irina

  • Very glad to see your blog...I'm so happy that you are enjoying Indian food and more even you understand the importance of spices and coconut. Me being from Kerala, now in Kentucky mostly miss fresh coconut. Looking forward more of your recipes.
