There are many good places to have breakfast in Powai, the area I reside in – Le Pain Quotidien, Theobroma, Aromas cafe,  Fratelli Fresh at Renaissance Hotel, Maddu Mess – just to name a few. And there is this relatively new restaurant called No. 101 that serve only Indian food with plenty options in the menu, for breakfast, lunch and dinner.

Since they opened in Powai, me and my family we are regular breakfast eaters. Though, we never tried lunch or dinner but the menu is inviting.

The restaurant No. 101 is situated in the heart of Powai Hiranandani Gardens, on Central Avenue Road, first floor of Ventura Building. Once you step in, it feels like you’ve been transported to another place – fusion music, heavy and colorful decor, wall shelves with kettles, hurricane lamps or mortar and pestle, an open bar and carefully positioned tables with comfortable seats.

The staff here is friendly, polite and attentive to your needs making sure you are enjoying your meal the whole time you are there.

When it comes to the menu for breakfast, No. 101 are keeping it simple and fresh – there’s a nice range of choices for North Indian, South Indian and Maharashtrian food – different types of parathas and dosas, upma, puri bhaji, chhole bathure, idlis, vadas, anda bhurji, poha, masala omelette, are just a few options.

Yesterday when I visited the place with my husband, I decided to go with anda bhurji (scrambled eggs with onions, tomatoes, chilies and spices) with pav (soft bread) and my husband’s choice was kheema pav (spicy minced mutton served with bread). Both dishes were prepared with care, perfect blend of spices, fresh taste, not too hot and they really respected my husband’s wish to reduce the use of oil.

Full, but still ready to try a dessert, we decided to share some gulab jamun and they were so mouthwatering good, deliciously sweet, and fragrant as well.

Overall impressions of No. 101, is that it’s achieving what it’s set out to do – it serves fresh, tasty and simple Indian food, in a clean and comfortable setting.
