Moong dal palak recipe – Lentils with spinach recipe

Moong dal palak is a very simple, healthy and easy to make recipe. If you are in a hurry and you search for a healthy and fast to cook lunch, I recommend you this recipe of moong dal palak.

Ingredients:

1/2 cup moong dal, washed and soaked in water for 10 minutes;
1 and 1/2 cup spinach, washed and finely chopped;
1 tbsp ginger garlic paste;
1 onion, chopped;
1/4 tsp turmeric powder;
salt to taste;
pinch of red chilli powder;
2 cups water;
1 tsp lemon juice;
1/2 tbsp garam masala;
1/2 tsp cumin seeds;
2 dried red chillies;
1 green chilli, chopped;
pinch of asafetida (hing);
2 garlic cloves;
1 and 1/2 tbsp ghee (oil).

Here’s what you need to do:

Wash properly 1/2 cup of moong dal and soak it in water for 10 minutes. After 10 minutes, drain the water.

Take moong dal with 2 cups of water in a pressure cooker. Add the chopped spinach, ginger and garlic paste, chopped onion, turmeric powder, pinch of red chilli powder and salt to taste. Close the lid and pressure cook it, on medium flame, for 2 whistles.

Turn off the flame, let the pressure go down by itself, then open the cover. Now add lemon juice and garam masala. Keep aside.

Heat ghee or oil in a small pan. Add cumin seeds and when they begin to sizzle, add dried red chillies, chopped green chilli, garlic cloves and a pinch of asafetida. Fry for 30 seconds, then take it away from the flame and pour it over the cooked dal.

Taste for salt and add if necessary.

Serve moong dal palak with plain rice, jeera rice or any Indian bread.
