Rajma Rasmisa Recipe – Indian Kidney Beans Recipe

The other day I felt like having some kidney beans side dish for lunch, to go with rice and appam. I have been searching for a simple kidney beans recipe on the internet, and I stopped at the Rajma Rasmisa recipe of the famous chef Sanjeev Kapoor. I don’t regret it, as it turned out pretty delicious.

Rajma Rasmisa is a very simple dish to make, doesn’t required too many ingredients, a comfort meal to have for lunch or dinner.

 


Servings: 4 | Prep Time: 8-10 hrs | Cook Time: 50 minutes

Ingredients:

1 and 1/2 cup rajma (kidney beans), soaked overnight;
2 onions, grated;
4 tomatoes, pureed;
1 tbsp ginger garlic paste;
1 -2 green chillies, chopped (as per taste);
1 tbsp coriander powder;
1/2 tsp red chilli powder;
1 tsp cumin powder;
1/4 tsp turmeric powder;
1 tsp garam masala;
5 cups of water;
salt;
oil.

 


Step by Step Rajma Rasmisa Recipe

In a pressure cooker add soaked rajma with 5 cups of water and 1/2 tsp salt, close the lid and pressure cook for 25-30 minutes, on medium flame. Once done, turn off the flame, let the pressure go down by itself, then open the cover. Keep aside.

In a deep pan heat some oil. Once hot, add grated onions and stir fry for 3-4 minutes.

Then add ginger garlic paste and chopped green chilli. Mix and fry for 1 minute.

Add tomatoes pureed along with all powder spices except for garam masala, that we will add it later. Mix and let it cook on medium flame, for 5 minutes.

Now transfer the cooked rajma, mix well and adjust the salt taste. Add garam masala, cover and let it simmer for 10-15 minutes, on low flame.

Garnish with fresh coriander leaves and serve it hot with rice or Indian bread.
